I mentioned in a recent Amazon Wishlist that I wanted to buy the L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation now that it’s finally available in the UK so that is what I’m going to be sharing with you all today.
I’ve been testing this foundation out for over a month now to ensure that I have a fully rounded review.
If you’d like to know if the Pro Glow foundation is worth the hype it has received in America, what type of coverage and longevity you should be expecting as well as shade range and all that good stuff – keep reading!
Before I crack on with my review, let’s have a look at what this product actually claims to do! According to the L’Oreal website, the claims are:
Discover the new pro finish of longwear: up to 24 hour wear with a hydrating glow. Lightweight and creamy, this long lasting foundation goes on smooth with a glow finish that lasts. With medium coverage, it instantly hides imperfections for a clear complexion. The hydrating foundation with SPF is ideal for normal to dry skin.
Whilst this foundation definitely doesn’t promise a matte finish which is usually what I go for, with spring and summer on the horizon I wouldn’t say no to glow!
I have combination skin which consists of an oily t-zone and dry patches on my cheeks so not only will I need it to last when my oils start to come out during the day but also not cling to dry patches.
As I am very fair with a neutral undertone, I purchased the lightest shade in the range; 201 Classic Ivory. In the packaging it looks a little darker than my complexion but actually applies a lot lighter on the skin. Despite this, once you start blending it into the skin it appears to adapt to your skin tone as this is the best foundation match I’ve ever found for myself!
The L’Oreal Paris Infalliable Pro Glow Liquid Foundation comes in 12 shades which realy isn’t enough for everyone, fair and deep, to be able to find their perfect match. I’m disappointed with the shade range really, especially as the L’oreal True Match foundation comes in 28 shades in the UK and 33 shades in the US – why not use the same number of shades for this new foundation formula?
As you can see, the shade range are very tailored to fair and tanned complexions with only one shade suitable for deep skin tones.
I’ve been experimenting with different tools to get the perfect overall finish and I have come to the conclusion that a densely packed brush is best for this foundation.
A sponge takes away too much coverage and can make it look a little patchy whereas a flimsy stippling brush leaves it too streaky. After a lot of trial and error, my favourite brush for an airbrushed finish is the E.L.F. Ultimate Blending Brush.
With a brush it glides over the skin effortlessly and melts into the skin for a seamless finish. What I love is that it doesn’t emphasise dry patches!
L’Oreal claims this foundation will give you medium coverage, and I definitely agree. You can easily build this foundation up to high medium coverage that still looks natural and glowy. Due to my combination skin, I have to set this with a setting powder to keep it locked in place but it still leaves a radiant glow that makes tired and dull skin look refreshed.
The one claim I don’t agree with is the 24 hour wear. Firstly, I don’t know who wants to wear makeup for 24 hours but I definitely don’t! On a normal work day I apply at 6am and remove my makeup at around 7pm, that’s 13 hours of wear time and I usually wouldn’t wear it for any longer than this.
I would say at around the 10 hour mark it starts to look a little oily around my nose, which can easily be resolved with powder or blotting sheets. I would say if your skin is more on the norml/dry side then you will definitely get more wear time out of this but if you are a little oily, make sure you have some powder on hand.
Worth The Hype?
If you’ve been patiently waiting for the L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation to be available in the UK to see if it’s really worth all the hype, I highly recommend purchasing it – even if you usually love matte foundations, this is a game changer. My skin has never looked so fresh and natural!
